It is the forefront of opening up to the west and is the economic base in Central Asia. Tourism also developed well here.

The research report of China's top 500 machinery companies in 2008 pointed out that the imbalance of China's economic development determines the imbalance of China's machinery industry development, and also determines the geographical distribution imbalance of top 500 machinery companies. Most number of the enterprises are located in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong and Shanghai. China National Machinery Industry Corporation [China Machinery Group] was established in January 1997, formerly known as China National Machinery and Equipment (Group) Company. It is the State Council approved large state-owned enterprise, which is under the direct lead of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. In 2007, it ranked No.78 in the Top 500 Chinese enterprises. It is the most famous enterprise, who is involved in the "Chang-e project."
